Giveaway to Celebrate Monday!

Happy Monday, peeps! I'm super psyched to announce a giveaway from one of my favorite handmade jewelry makers, Just Your Type, Vintage Typewriter Jewelry! I fell in love with their creations last fall when I discovered them at the Glendale Crossings Festival in Glendale, Kentucky. If you haven't been, you MUST go next year! My friend Suzan & I made the trip to Glendale again this past Saturday (we discovered Just Your Type together last October). We scoured the 100s of vendors (literally) and finally found the booth with beautifully vintage quilts and vintage typewriters as backdrops, huge tissue paper flowers hanging from overhead, and fun, funky jewelry covering the tables. For a short few minutes we were in heaven! Melissa & Stephanie were busy selling their wares but took a few minutes to hear us rave about the initial necklaces we purchased last fall. We get lots of compliments & wanted them to know.

I was smitten with one of their newest creations - an adjustable "definition" ring (for lack of a formal name). Mine has an oval shaped "stone" and under the clear stone reads a partial definition & the word vintage. So cool! Here is a pic:

I've worn it since purchasing it on Saturday & LOVE it!

So - the big news that I'm so excited about...I have a ring up for grabs today!!! This one says the word antique and is equally as awesome as mine. :)

New Space

19 months ago I took over a room that we have upstairs. My activity grew from one corner to eventually filling the entire space. The walls were taupe, the lighting was bad (still is) and my business had taken off so quickly (thanks everyone!) that I had never found time to slow down, de-clutter & organize.

I have a friend who is the ultimate in organization. I emailed her one day about helping me with my roomn & a few days later she was IN the room actually sorting through scrap fabric with me! She spent the entire day with me & Ava, shopping in Lowe's & Target for necessities, and actually putting her hands on the project to get me organized. Immediately, I was more productive. Shelli had simple ideas that I never would have dreamed up...but ones that really were life-altering for me & my business.

A few weeks after Shelli's Saturday, I bought paint & begged my husband to help me drown the dark taupe walls of my studio in a fresh, cucumber-green tone called aloe vera. I was iffy about the color, but it matched my new marketing items...so it had to work. We pained for 6 hours & added two coats of tinted primer & a coat of flat paint (only from Porter Paints btw)...immediately, we were both in love with the color. When I had everything back in its place & added some red to the walls in decoration, I was home. :)

I now can't wait to get up to my room to get to work...I SO needed this makeover (which btw only set me back roughly $200 including 4 gallons of paint). Shelli Rose, you are awesome!

Room shot of my sewing corner. The cabinet to the left is a $25 garage sale find that will eventually be white. I added the fabric in behind the shelves from Shelli's suggestion. It's now my shipping station!

Corkboard that will soon be red or white (can't decide). We set out to Lowe's to buy hooks for each spool of thread, but after seeing the price, Shelli suggested using hooks to mount the spool holders that I already had. Total cost for this life-altering project: $10.

My office nook...the hub! :) I've had this map for 9 years. Shelli suggested using push pins to mark loctions where I've filled orders. Cool to see that! My favorite item: the lamp with red/white shade from Target. It's the perfect accessory for my little space.

Shelli suggested fabric skirts for my worktables. Love the idea, but it will have to wait.

Shelli gave me the idea of using these hand embroidery hoops with bright fabric as wall art. Since I have some red int he room, I decided these were fitting. I love them!

Another room shot of my sewing area on the left & my embroidery area on the right. The two bins under the table is what's left of 2 LARGE storage tub of scrap fabric that I used to have! Shelli says to simplify! :)

This is the only piece of furniture that I purchased. It has 9 cubbies designated for specific items - making everything easy to find. Shelli's idea was using the bright fabrics in the background...so cute! She also suggested using the middle green containers for ribbon & trim, so they would stick out the holes & I could just pull them through when needed instead of digging through a box or bag. Like I said, life-altering!

My $25 garage-sale-find form last summer. Eventually it will be white. I used the idea of the fabric background on the cabinet above on this cabinet, too. So cute! This is now my work station complete with area for scale, items to ship & a cabinet below for bags, boxes, etc.

This closet was a wreck before...now it's all mine for inventory.

Shelli suggested hanging fabric that wasn't on a bolts.

My friend Shelli came to help me rediscover my sewing studio beneath the blanks, fabric, etc. After reclaiming a closet, making a trip to Target & Lowe's & getting rid of 2 storage bins of fabric scraps (collected over 18 months), I finally see the light! Things have found their homes & my space is feeling like me. The walls will go from taupe to pale yellow over the next couple of weeks. Slowly, but surely! THANK YOU SHELLI!
